This is going to be a short one,
because it should not even be an issue,
SO HERE GOES...
Ok, you need a shower, so take one.
That should be the end of the post, seriously.
However, I am going to expand just a bit further. When you literally have an issue with B.O., the customer automatically has a severe judgement about you, and the company that you work for. I know that there are times when you are out in the field, when "good old Mother Nature," has made the area
HOT AND STEAMY, and you perspire. I get that, it happens.
You however, AS A PRO, had better have ways of mitigating YOUR SCENT, so as not to put off your potential customer.
When you are around a customer, (even 6 ft away nowadays), and you stink, the customer is saying to themself,
"HOLY CRAP, THIS PERSON SMELLS."
You will literally kill each and every potential sale, if your B.O. is offensive. If you are a person, who gets the good old,
"MID AFTERNOON MUSK",
please bring with you something to camouflage it.
Some Body Spray maybe? Some Cologne?
I don't care, just do it.
Please, for the sake of your sale, the sake of your company, and for your customer, be a bit courteous. We all know when we have a good lather going during the day. Problem is, so does your customer, and you need to have any and all tools available in your arsenal to sell.
Smelling like you just ran a marathon,
is not one of them.
Also, while on this subject of personal hygiene,
HOW ABOUT A MINT...
Even though we are wearing masks, if your breath is bad, it is noticeable.
Here's a thought.
How about having an extra toothbrush, with some mouthwash
that you can gargle with throughout the day.
Recently, while training a newbie, I ran into this,
COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE SITUATION.
The Newbie was giving his presentation, and had a slight burp and blew it out. Thinking that the mask covered up the issue, he paid it no mind, NOT EVEN AN EXCUSE ME.
The customer, who was 6ft away I might add, got that
"did he really just do that", look on his face.
About 3 minutes later, the Newbie did it again,
and the customer lost it.
Mr. Customer, looked the Newbie in the face, and said...
"Son, you have got to stop doing that,
YOUR BREATH SMELLS SO BAD,
I AM ACTUALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO YOUR FARTS!!" Why don't you jump up on the table here,
FART RIGHT IN MY FACE, and go for the Tri-fecta."
For those of you keeping score, we didn't get the deal.
All of these things are preventable. We need to stack the odds completely in our favor as salespeople.
Bad Hygiene and Bad Breath is not going to help you sell.
Just because you are trying to, "keep it real" (REAL FUNKY),
will always turn out to be,
a reflection upon you and your company.
Justified or not, PERCEPTION IS ALWAYS REALITY.
Remember:
THE PERSON YOU ARE IN FRONT OF
PAYS YOUR COMMISSION!
They are JUDGE, JURY AND EXECUTIONER.
So pay attention as to how you come off to your customer.
Or someone else, is going to earn YOUR COMMISSION.

If you drink coffee, smoke,
or eat Garlic with Onion flavored mouthwash,
please camouflage this as well.
